In Praise of Women and Femininity

SPLAT! in 2007 was a public education arts competition to educate the public about the concerns and challenges facing women in Singapore and the South East Asian region through a week-long exhibition of artworks contributed by student artists.

The SPLAT! visual art competition engaged youths aged between 13 and 25 to harness their aristic talents. The youths conceptualised and developed their entries based on the theme of In Praise of Women and Femininity.

The SPLAT! exhibition In Praise of Women and Femininity was held at The Arts House.  Ms Penny Low, Chairman of the Goverment Parliamentary Committee for Information, Communication and the Arts, and a Member of Parliament for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC graced the launch of our exhibition. The 25 winning entries were curated and exhibited, accompanied by write-ups from the submitting artists. Youth volunteers distributed souvenirs publicising SPLAT! and provided the public with information about its beneficiaries in 2007, aidha and UNIFEM Singapore.

After the week-long exhibition, the 25 winning entries were auctioned to the public at Starbucks Coffee Ogilvy Centre. Proceeds from the auction were donated to aidha and UNIFEM Singapore to fund programmes for women in Singapore.
