Not You, Then Who?
SPLAT! in 2008 was a public education and fundraising arts extravaganza to engage the public into accepting and offering second chances to youths-at-risk and ex-youth offenders while inspiring community action to support their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
Sharing Sessions in Schools
Singapore Prison Service Officers and ex-youth offenders shared their personal experiences and insights on youth delinquency through assembly talks at 10 partnering educational institutions. The educators and students were engaged by a performance extract from our musical If I Could Have performed by youth volunteers, revolving around themes of at-risk behaviour and rehabilitation.
SPLAT! Dance, Drama and Visual Art Competitions
The SPLAT! dance, drama and visual art competitions engaged youths aged between 13 and 25 to harness their talents in these disciplines. The youths conceptualised and developed their entries based on the themes of A Second Chance At Life, Embrace, It's Not Easy To Be Me, To Err Is Human, and Young and Not Dangerous.
The judgings for the SPLAT! dance and drama competitions were held at Woodlands Regional Library, our venue partner in 2008. The two winning entries of our dance and drama competitions were showcased at the SPLAT! Not You, Then Who? Concert.
The judging for the SPLAT! visual art competition was held at Student Advisory Centre, our beneficiary in 2008. The four winning entries and 30 merit entries were curated and exhibited at Woodlands Regional Library.
SPLAT! Not You, Then Who? Concert
The SPLAT! Not You, Then Who? Concert was attended by 240 guests from the people, private and public sectors, educators, youths-at-risk, ex-youth offenders, other youths and the public. It was graced by Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Parliamentary Secretary for National Development, and Deputy Chairman of the National Committee on Youth Guidance and Rehabilitation.
The SPLAT! Not You, Then Who? Concert showcased the two winning entries of the SPLAT! dance and drama competitions and the SPLAT! musical If I Could Have, written by Mr Alex Wang, Mr Augustine Chan and Mr Dominic Lim. Dr Maliki presented the winners of our dance, drama and visual art competitions with their awards.
The evening of a multi-sensory performing arts concert ended with commendable contribution from the Concert Organising Committee from the Interact Club, PIoneer Junior College. Sales proceeds from the concert tickets were donated to Student Advisory Centre to fund programmes for youths-at-risk and ex-youth offenders.
Public Education and Fundraising
Youth volunteers from Catholic Junior College, CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh), Pioneer Junior College, Si Ling Secondary School and Victoria Junior College went door-to-door at four housing estates to sell post-it pads, our public education memorabilia in 2008.

They educated the public about the concerns and challenges facing youths-at-risk and ex-youth offenders, engaged the public into offering them second chances and raised funds towards funding educational opportunities and programmes. While working towards these objectives, these youth volunteers interacted with individuals from all walks of life and developed lifeskills.
Youth Service-Learning Award
SPLAT! clinched the Gold Award for the Open Category of the Youth Service-Learning Award 2009 at the national level and conferred by the National Youth Council.
