Volunteers

Having been given second chances in life, we know how precious second chances are and how rarely they come by.

We believe that it takes a village to raise a child. Youth delinquency has many causes, ranging from a dysfunctional family to peer pressure; but amidst all these problems youths-at-risk and ex-youth offenders have to grapple with, discrimination is the greatest obstacle on their rocky road to turning over a new leaf.

Because of the stigma, they are struck off the list before they are provided with a chance to discover their talents and prove their worth.

This deprivation of much-needed opportunities perpetuates a vicious cycle in which they find little positive self-worth, and go on indulging in unwholesome activities.

In a nutshell, all of us are responsible for our fellow human beings: we must give them the chance to change for the better, and a chance to prove that they can accomplish the "big things in life" too.

If you believe that young people who are labelled "hopeless" ,"incorrigible", or "delinquent" by the majority will shine given the right conditions, join us to create these conditions.

As an all-volunteer community arts movement, we constantly need volunteers to plan, manage and implement our initiatives. If you have the heart and will to bring out the best in oft-misunderstood youths, join us now!

  • Volunteer Appreciation Roll

SPLAT! appreciates our volunteers for contributing their positive attitude, knowledge, skills and time to our programmes. Their contributions continue to engage the public into accepting and offering second chances to youths-at-risk and ex-youth offenders while inspiring community action to support their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

Our Volunteer Appreciation Roll recognises these changemakers and celebrates their contributions!

    What Our Volunteers Say

"Volunteering with SPLAT! for its visual art exhibition HeARTbeat has been an eye-opening experience which I have never experienced. The short span of two months has helped me to develop and refine my interpersonal and organisational skills as well as to grow as an individual. Voluntering with SPLAT! showed me the challenges and the need for more work to be done with youths in Singapore."

"It was inspiring to work with people who are as motivated and passionate about helping youths-at-risk and ex-youth offenders; people who possess the drive and vision to positively and permanently impact the lives of their beneficiaries."

"Volunteering with SPLAT! opened up many windows of opportunities for me to learn. Apart from contributing small efforts towards making differences to society, this was a valuable experience which has helped me to grow. I better understand the terms "forgiveness", "compassion" and the likes. These values will remain with me in my journey of life. Volunteering with SPLAT! was challenging and eventful, and I will continue to treasure my time with it."

"Working with SPLAT! was very different and challenging compared to the service-learning projects we were accustomed to. Their coordinators insistence on meeting high standards for its initiatives and concert stretched our expectations. They made us realise the importance of working thoroughly on service-learning projects from conception to fruition."

"Participating in the SPLAT! Drama Competition has increased my confidence in speaking aloud. I have learnt alot and made many new friends. The musical If I Could Have has brought out the best in many young talents. Taking and juggling multiple roles was challenging. My role has taught me to multi-task and become better at managing stage systems. I thank my school and SPLAT! for providing me with a wonderful and meaningful experience."
